Kyrgyzstan pays special attention to the development of education and science. The government is implementing a number of initiatives aimed at supporting domestic researchers, modernising educational infrastructure and improving the quality of scientific research. At the same time, the country is actively expanding its international ties and cooperating with leading scientific communities abroad. Which countries are we talking about? What formats of international partnership exist, and how effective is such cooperation? Read more about this in our article.

Kyrgyzstan and the United States: partnership in innovative technologies and education
One of the key areas of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the United States is the development of innovative technologies. In April 2025, representatives of the Ministry of Digital Development and Innovative Technologies of the Kyrgyz Republic met with a delegation from the US Embassy in Kyrgyzstan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects for expanding their partnership in the field of advanced digital solutions. Particular attention was paid to the application of artificial intelligence technologies in the implementation of joint projects.
In addition, the participants exchanged views on the organisation of the KIT-2025 Forum, a large-scale event dedicated to digital technologies, which annually brings together more than 2,000 participants from around the world, including the United States. This year's forum programme focused on the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies in various fields of activity.
Education also remains one of the priority areas of bilateral partnership. A striking example of this is the numerous academic exchange programmes implemented with the support of the US Embassy in Kyrgyzstan. In addition, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Peace Corps signed a Memorandum of Understanding. This document attests to the joint efforts of the parties in promoting the study of English and supporting Kyrgyz teachers.
Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan: partnership in higher education
Educational cooperation is one of the key areas of bilateral relations between Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan. An important confirmation of the strengthening of the partnership was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of higher education in January 2025.
Priorities in cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan
- development of academic mobility
- exchange of students and teachers
- implementation of joint scientific research
- launch of educational programmes
The parties pay special attention to cooperation in the field of higher medical education. During the official visit of the Kyrgyz delegation to Pakistan in January 2025, they talked about the prospects for educational and scientific partnerships, including sharing experiences in accreditation, implementing international standards, and creating conditions for mutual recognition of qualifications and diplomas. This approach will help to increase the competitiveness of medical professionals from both countries at the regional level.
During the visit, meetings were held with leading medical universities in Pakistan and the Higher Education Commission. The negotiations resulted in agreements to launch joint educational programmes, internships and academic exchanges. These initiatives will contribute to the modernisation of the educational process, the introduction of digital technologies and the active involvement of young scientists in international research activities.
Cooperation in the field of medicine opens up new opportunities for both countries to address global health challenges. It serves as a reliable platform for the development of advanced approaches to medical training and the introduction of innovations in practical medicine.
Cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan: scientific research and education
Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have long-standing and strong traditions of cooperation in the field of education, which contribute to the development of a high-quality education system in both countries. An important confirmation of this partnership was the signing in 2010 of an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of education, which created the basis for further interaction and development. The agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan in the field of education is aimed at developing close cooperation and exchange of experience in various educational areas.
Agreement on cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan
- Regular exchange of information on education systems and reforms.
- Exchange of educational, teaching, audio and video materials.
- Mutual exchange of students, teachers and scientists.
- Exchange of regulatory legal acts on education issues.
- Assistance in the development of regulatory acts on the certification and accreditation of educational institutions.
- Expansion and deepening of cooperation between educational organisations of both countries at all levels.
Particular attention is paid to joint training and professional development of specialists, conducting scientific research and implementing joint educational programmes. To this end, direct agreements between educational institutions are envisaged, defining the rights and obligations of the parties to the cooperation.
It should also be noted that the parties ensure equal rights for citizens of both countries to secondary education and promote the preservation and study of native languages, which emphasises cultural interaction within educational processes.
Kyrgyzstan and South Korea: partnership in digital education and science
Cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and South Korea in the field of education is actively developing, especially in the direction of digital transformation. In 2025, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Department of Education of one of the provinces of South Korea signed a Memorandum of Understanding, opening a new stage in bilateral partnership.
Initiatives in cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and South Korea
- conducting a training programme in South Korea for selected teachers from Kyrgyzstan
- organising training courses on digital education in the Kyrgyz Republic
- administrative support for Korean specialists during their stay in the country
- cooperation with local schools to implement digital education projects
- provision of humanitarian and technical assistance to schools in Kyrgyzstan by the Korean side
Within the framework of this cooperation, special attention is paid to improving the qualifications of teachers, which is of key importance for the effective implementation of the 12-year education model in Kyrgyzstan.
In addition to educational cooperation at the ministerial level, the Republic of Korea Education Centre has been operating in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, since 2001. The centre not only promotes the Korean language and culture, but also provides support to schools where Korean is taught, trains teachers and organises cultural and educational events.
Thanks to the South Korean government's scholarship programmes, 365 students from Kyrgyzstan have had the opportunity to study at Korean universities between 1997 and 2024.
Kyrgyzstan and China: partnership in science, technology and innovation
Cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and China in the field of science, technology and innovation is gradually gaining momentum and becoming one of the priority areas of bilateral relations. This was clearly demonstrated by the second meeting of the Kyrgyz-Chinese Commission on Scientific and Technical Cooperation, which took place in Cholpon-Ata. During the meeting, a protocol and memorandum of understanding were signed between the relevant ministries of both countries, confirming the parties' intentions to further deepen their partnership in the field of innovation, science and technology.
Over the past two years, the countries have already implemented a number of joint initiatives, including the launch of scientific laboratories, research projects, exchange programmes and platforms for technology transfer. Particular emphasis has been placed on the development of green technologies, biomedicine, digitalisation, cultural heritage protection and the introduction of smart agriculture. A number of Kyrgyz-Chinese laboratories, particularly in the fields of veterinary medicine, clean energy and plant protection, are already operating with excellent results.
Initiatives in partnership between Kyrgyzstan and China
- Academic internships in China for 10 young scientists from Kyrgyzstan.
- Creation of an exchange programme between scientific institutions.
- Launch of a competition for joint R&D projects with funding of up to 1.5 million yuan for each.
- Opening and modernisation of laboratories in the fields of energy, agriculture, ecology and medicine.
- Scientific support for infrastructure projects, in particular the construction of the Kyrgyzstan-China-Uzbekistan railway.
- Special attention was paid to educational exchange: today, more than 4,200 Kyrgyz students are studying in China, while about 450 Chinese citizens are studying at universities in Kyrgyzstan.
The parties emphasised the importance of further developing academic mobility and expressed interest in creating joint educational programmes and training specialists in the field of technology transfer. Such cooperation opens up new opportunities for the development of the scientific potential of both countries.
As we can see, Kyrgyzstan is not only investing in the development of education and science within the country, but is also actively establishing international cooperation. Thanks to cooperation with other countries, the domestic scientific community gains access to advanced technologies and innovative solutions, as well as international experience. This, in turn, contributes to strengthening the scientific potential and modernising the country's education system.
