On 12 June, a meeting took place in Bishkek between Albert Makhmetkulov, Deputy Minister of Education of Kyrgyzstan, and Levan Girsiashvili, First Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia. The parties discussed opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation in education, exchanged experience on current areas of education policy, and outlined further steps for implementing joint initiatives.
New opportunities for cooperation in education in Kyrgyzstan
Deputy Minister Makhmetkulov emphasised the importance of signing a memorandum that opens new horizons for cooperation between educational institutions in Kyrgyzstan and Georgia. He also told the Georgian delegation about the “Altyn Kazyk” National Education Programme, aimed at reforming Kyrgyzstan's education system.
Georgia shares its experience of school and educational reforms with Kyrgyzstan
Levan Girsiashvili, in turn, expressed Georgia's willingness to host a delegation from Kyrgyzstan to learn about the work of local schools and colleges. He highlighted the importance of exchanging experience among young people and implementing joint projects, including youth camps that help strengthen friendship and create new opportunities for young people. Girsiashvili also spoke about the reforms underway in the Georgian education system and invited his Kyrgyz colleagues to visit Georgia to learn more about these changes.
Among the topics discussed at the meeting in Bishkek were the following areas of cooperation in education:
- exchange of experience between schools and colleges of the two countries
- organisation of joint youth camps
- familiarisation with reforms in Georgia's education system
- development of bilateral cooperation between educational institutions
What does Georgia's 12-year education system involve?
Girsiashvili shared information about Georgia's 12-year school education system, which has been in place since 1990. This experience may be of interest to Kyrgyzstan in the context of implementing the “Altyn Kazyk” programme, which aims to update approaches to organising the educational process.
Following the meeting, the parties identified several steps for the further development of cooperation in education:
- Signing of a memorandum of understanding between the education authorities of the two countries.
- Organisation of a visit by the Kyrgyz delegation to Georgia to study local experience.
- Implementation of joint youth projects and camps.
- Continuation of experience exchange on education policy issues.
As a result of the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness for further cooperation and the implementation of joint projects aimed at improving the quality of education and developing human potential in Kyrgyzstan and Georgia. It is worth recalling that the presidents of the two countries have previously signed several bilateral documents, including a memorandum of understanding in the field of education.
The development of cooperation in education between Kyrgyzstan and Georgia demonstrates how the exchange of experience between countries can become the foundation for systemic reforms. Such initiatives open up new opportunities not only for schools and colleges, but also for the scientific and educational environment as a whole – including matters of publication activity and international academic engagement.
