Co-operation between Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan
The visit of the delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic to Pakistan on 13 January 2025 was an important stage in strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the field of higher medical education. The delegation included high-ranking officials and representatives of leading universities of Kyrgyzstan. Namely: Minister of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan Dogdurkul Kendyrbaeva, Head of the Department of Higher, Secondary Professional and Postgraduate Education Ainura Israilova, Kyrgyz Ambassador to Pakistan Avazbek Atakhanov, as well as rectors of the largest public and private universities in the country.
The purpose of the visit was to discuss the development of joint initiatives, improving the quality of medical programmes, as well as sharing experience in accreditation and international standards in medical education.
Meeting with representatives of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council
The meeting of the Kyrgyz delegation with representatives of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) was an important part of the visit. During the discussion, the Kyrgyz delegation shared their experience in accreditation and application of international standards in medical education. Attention was focused on adaptation of successful PMDC models in Kyrgyzstan, which will help to improve medical education in the country.
In addition, the prospects for the development of joint educational and research initiatives were discussed, which include the creation of tools for mutual recognition of qualifications and educational documents to increase the mobility of medical professionals and their competitiveness at the regional level. The issue of organising an international forum that would focus on the development of higher medical education was also raised, which would facilitate the exchange of experiences and international networking in this important area.
Medical Universities of Pakistan and the Higher Education Commission
The visit of a delegation from the Kyrgyz Republic to the National University of Medical Sciences in Rawalpindi and the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University in Islamabad was an important step in the development of cooperation in the field of medical education. During the visit, the representatives of the delegation familiarised themselves with the unique educational practices applied in Pakistani medical universities. They discussed the possibilities of creating joint educational programmes that would allow students and teachers from both countries to participate in internships and exchange of experience.
Special attention was paid to the development of academic mobility, which is an important tool for improving the quality of education and mutual enrichment of knowledge. The issue of introducing digital technologies into educational processes was also raised, which is a key aspect for modernising and improving the efficiency of education in medical universities.
The meeting with the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) was aimed at developing joint research, exchange of students and faculty, and the possibility of establishing dual degree and internship programmes. The visit was an important step in building long-term co-operation in education and science between the two countries.
