Scientific Publications has traditionally prepared a list of scientific journals that lost their indexing in the Scopus database due to non-compliance with the platform's requirements. We recommend that you familiarise yourself with the current publications excluded in December 2025.

Why can a journal be removed from Scopus?
Scopus is one of the most authoritative international databases, which indexes only high-quality scientific journals. The platform's experts constantly check scientific publications for compliance with standards and remove those that no longer comply.
The main reasons for exclusion include:
- publication of articles with low scientific value or minimal contribution to science
- violation of the principles of academic integrity (plagiarism, self-plagiarism, etc.)
- suspicious scientometrics indicators (e.g., sharp jumps in the number of publications or citations) recorded by the Radar system
- non-compliance with Scopus standards (weak peer review, low quality of research, lack of novelty)
- changes in editorial policy (lowering of requirements for materials or a sharp change in subject matter)

How are Scopus journals tracked?
Scopus continuously monitors all indexed journals to maintain high quality standards. The automated Radar system plays a key role in this process. It is a special algorithm developed by Elsevier that analyses dozens of metrics. It detects anomalies such as:
- sudden spikes in the number of publications or citations
- unexplained changes in the geography of authors
- high levels of self-citation by the journal or authors
- violations of publication ethics (e.g., lack of proper peer review or data manipulation)
- other deviations from the norm
If Radar detects suspicious behaviour, the journal undergoes a more thorough review. Based on the results, the publication may lose its indexing.
Scopus has recently changed and summarised the reasons for excluding journals, which are listed in the official lists. Instead of detailed labels such as Publication Concerns, Outlier behaviour or Radar, which were actively used before, most new exclusions are now simply labelled as Discontinuation and Journal change policy. Thanks to such checks and removals, Scopus maintains a high level of reliability and quality of scientific journals.
