In May 2025, the Scopus database updated the list of scientific journals that lost their indexing. To find out which publications are included in this list, we recommend reviewing the information prepared by Scientific Publications.
Why might a journal be excluded from Scopus?
Getting into the Scopus database is a complex and lengthy process that requires journals to meet strict criteria. Every month, Scopus monitors indexed publications to check how well they comply with the established rules. A journal may be excluded for the following reasons:
- Fraudulent practices: publications engage in illegal activities, such as offering expedited publication for money or misrepresenting themselves as prestigious journals, misleading scientists.
- Violation of scientific ethics: failure to comply with the principles and standards of academic integrity.
- Low-quality content: publication of articles that do not meet established standards.
- Outdated or irrelevant material: publication of data that has no scientific value.
- Suspicious activity: sudden changes in scientometric indicators that raise suspicion.
- Change in the journal's subject area: deviation from the stated scientific focus.

How are journals monitored?
Scopus uses a comprehensive approach to evaluate journals, using Elsevier's Radar tool. This system tracks changes in scientometric indicators and identifies violations. The main reasons for excluding journals include:
- artificially inflating citation counts
- publishing articles without proper peer review
- a sharp change in the journal's scientific focus
- lack of a quality peer review process
- violation of ethical standards for publications
- insufficient number of articles or their low quality
Another reason for exclusion may be so-called “Publication Concerns” – problems related to publishing activities that undermine trust in the journal. These include unfair practices, data manipulation, or the publication of materials that do not meet scientific standards.
